# Devialet AIR --- # Devialet AIR Roon now includes built-in support for the Devialet AIR protocol, used by Devialet's Expert and Expert Pro devices. This is a new implementation of AIR, undertaken at Roon Labs. It does not require Devialet's AIR driver, and works with Roon Cores running on any platform. To join the conversation about Roon + AIR, please visit our [community site](https://community.roonlabs.com/c/audio-products/devialet). To see more information about AIR on Devialet's website, [see here](https://en.devialet.com/expertpro/#technologies/exclusive/air/). To see our blog post about this feature, [see here](http://blog.roonlabs.com/roon-devialet/). # Getting Started Devialet AIR devices are automatically discovered by Roon. First, go to Settings->Audio and look for your device. You should see your Expert like this: The "-ETH" device corresponds to the Ethernet connection on the Expert. The "-WIFI" device corresponds to the WiFi connection. If your device is only connected via one network interface, you will just see one device. Click the "Enable" button to enable the device as a [[Zone]] in Roon: # Tips and Tricks ### Make sure your Devialet Expert firmware is up to date Roon developed this integration against current versions of Expert firmware and can't make guarantees about its operation with older versions. ### Configure the AIR driver appropriately, or disable it. When using Roon's built-in AIR support, the AIR driver is not involved. However, when the AIR driver is streaming to the device, the device is not available for streaming from Roon. If you don't plan to use the Devialet AIR driver after switching to Roon's implementation, feel free to disable it or uninstall it completely. If you do plan to switch back and forth between Roon and the driver, be sure to enable this setting: This will prevent the driver from taking control of the Expert when the Expert powers up, which can interfere with Roon's control of the device. This step should be repeated on all computers in your household that have the AIR driver enabled. ### For the best experience, connect your Expert using its ethernet port While both Ethernet and WiFi are supported, Ethernet provides the best experience, performance, functionality, and sound quality. Using Ethernet enables access to DSD64 playback, which is not available when the Expert is connected using WiFi. Using Ethernet also guarantees the use of AIR's bit-perfect asynchronous mode, whereas during WIFI playback, the playback mode will be chosen adaptively, to ensure stable playback. For more information on AIR's streaming modes, see [this page on Devialet's website](https://en.devialet.com/expertpro/#technologies/exclusive/air/). You can always tell which streaming mode is in use by checking [[Signal Path]]. ### In order for convenience switching to work, your input names must be set to the default value. "Ethernet" for ethernet, and "WiFi" for WiFi.
